“Happy Now? 03, 2024” explores the tension between emotional vulnerability and societal expectations to mask pain. Through the use of fabric, acrylic paint, wax, medical gauze, and oil pastel on wood, the piece presents vibrant, expressive colors layered over darker tones to convey the complexity of hiding inner suffering behind a facade of joy. Measuring 43cm x 33cm, this sculptural painting challenges the idea that happiness can only be externally displayed while internal struggles remain concealed. The raw texture and color variations in this piece symbolize the emotional layers we cover, often forcing ourselves to present a 'happy' exterior, particularly in cultures where vulnerability is seen as weakness.
